The 7 years prison sentence to journalist Zavqibek Saidamini in #Tajikistan is yet another blow to #mediafreedom in the country. All imprisoned journalists must be released & enabled to report on matters of public interest, including on security issues. #JournalismIsNotACrime
I am appalled by the 10 year prison sentence given to journalist Daler Imomali in #Tajikistan, for doing his work. This is yet another blow to #mediafreedom in the country. I urge for his immediate release. Journalism is not a crime.
I call on the authorities of #Tajikistan to step up efforts in addressing various media freedom challenges in accordance with #OSCE#mediafreedom commitments. I remain ready to provide any necessary support and will constructively work with the authorities as well as other media stakeholders in the country. My statement on the visit: https://www.osce.org/representative-on-freedom-of-media/528150
During my ongoing visit to #Tajikistan, I expressed my deep dissatisfaction that journalist Abdullo Ghurbati was sentenced to 7,5 years in a high security colony. Such draconic sentences further endanger and stifle #mediafreedom & #freedomofexpression. He should be released.
