OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media

The safety and empowerment of women, particularly journalists, are critical to the health of democracy. We must ensure their lives are free from violence, said Director Philippe Tremblay today at the event "Fighting Online Violence Against Women and Girls".

Over the past decade, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media has developed effective mechanisms to ensure the safety of female journalists online.👇

Yet, much work remains to be done. We will continue to collaborate with OSCE – The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe participating States to achieve the desired results.

OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media is pleased to partner with OSCE Chair-in-Office 2024 to organize a high-level side event titled "More Than News: #MediaFreedom for Democracy and Security" at #OSCEMC24 to 👇

Today, we face a convergence of profound challenges:

➡️The transformative impact of AI;
➡️ The destabilizing effects of disinformation.

It is imperative to support journalists who uphold highest ethical standards, often at great personal risk. Their commitment to reporting relevant facts underpins the essential link between democracy and security, said Officer-in-Charge Philippe Tremblay.

A thought provoking discussion about information integrity, generative AI, regulation,healthy online information spaces & financial sustainability of media. We need a proactive multi-stakeholder approach to tackle these issues.
