On this day in 2001, the last trade not available for women (due to space limitations/privacy concerns) became open to all. Women can now become submariners, the recommendation brought to fruition under Vice Admiral Greg Maddison, Commander RCN at that time. #IWD2023 #SheTheNavy https://t.co/4fgHl5xdB6

Elsa was one of 700 women sworn to secrecy for her work during the Battle of the Atlantic, listening for encrypted radio messages from German U-Boats.
#BravoZulu for all you do and have done!

Meet Elsa Lessard, a true Canadian Hero. 🇨🇦
A career highlight - what an honour for Command Chief & I to present Elsa Lessard the Robert I. Hendy Award today.
A Second World War veteran, who served as a "listener" & helped break Germany’s Enigma code.
Bravo Zulu! https://t.co/Iy4bzldiYr

Today is #InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience! A gender gap persists at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Until this gap is no longer, we celebrate the work of women in the Navy and in Defence - make waves! 🌊

Not all heroes wear capes, this one wore a naval nursing uniform. 🏥 Her story is one we will share for years as #HMCSMargaretBrooke continues to make Canadian naval history. 🍁 As Canadians, her story is our story to share and remember.

The Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS) turns 80 years old this week!

New recruits did 3 weeks of basic training at HMCS CONESTOGA in Galt, ON, commanded by Cdr Isabel MacNeill.

Once complete, Wrens moved on to specialist training at other naval facilities.
