Snapshots from today

It was an opening of CYFEST second exhibition at the Botanical garden. I'm contrast with HayArt one, it was very earthly, very nature-embedded.

On videos: Laser-emitted bubble distorted sound modulator, sounds of cambrian creatures emerging from the fossils, Theremin-inspired meteo station helping to tell weather by sound, wind cones showing the winds from different cities, and my favourite — the corrosion of the stone sped up by the wind force data from across the globe.

Contemporary art in Armenia
The highlights of yesterday

The opening of CYFEST main project, one of two, brought all of the artistic community together – you could see artists and curators from most of the institutions in one room, which is fantastic. CYFEST also keeps the promise of bringing the global art to Armenia to show different perspectives on the state of the art in world.

I found myself most resonating with Liudmila Belova's interpretation of the festival's topic – the peepholes invoked the subtlest but most particular body movement connected to excitement of meeting a guest while being in the comfort of home. It needed not to be exact but still triggered the perfectly archived feeling.

And the 'Eigengrau' performance by Hans Tammen and Shelley Hirsch was the highest point of the night – I stood there smiling carelessly as Shelley gave a lecture in unprompted and subconscious vocalizations and live text (video in comments), accompanied by Hans's improvisation. I felt validated to be open and weird, like they gave me a permission to finally unrestrict myself and that the time was not a limit too.

Which works did you like?

🪡 TAI presents the exhibition of embroidery ‘Pariahs’ as a result of 2-year research of the memory of displaced and exiled people. The exhibition reflects the memories of individuals emigrated from Cilicia (Aintap, Marash, Urfa, etc.) in 1915, who underwent the difficult path of exile, to bring back and save the forgotten forms of Cilicia embroidery and lacework.

📆 THE CALENDAR OF EVENTS IS HERE

From the inception of this channel it’s been clear to me that the telegram channel or any social media is not the best way to keep up with the events in the art scene.

Events happen all the time but their announcements drown in the endless stream of messages and ultimately get lost or forgotten if you even get to see them at all. This is why it’s hard to keep up with what’s happening and to plan where to go and what to see.

That’s why me and the creative organizers of Armenia are trying something new. It is the calendar to which you subscribe once and get the access to all of the events that are happening in contemporary art in Armenia for years to come.

————

To get the calendar for yourself click here and add it to your calendar app.

🍎 If you’re on an iPhone it takes just a few more steps :)
1. Click here, press ‘Get this shortcut’*
2. ‘Allow’ the shortcut to run
3. And finally agree to add this calendar

After you’re done the calendar will take a minute to sync and will notify you of any upcoming events in contemporary art.

————

It’s been in the works for quite some time but now I’m ready to finally release it for all of you to enjoy. Many thanks to all of the people that supported me in preparations for this project and have already joined to add their events ❤️

More info on the calendar and why I am doing this is in this google doc.

* You will need the standard iPhone app ‘Shortcuts’ for your iPhone. If it’s deleted you can restore it once prompted. I know it’s messy, but it’s the best way there is :)
