Contemporary art in Armenia
Tomorrow is a big day!
Today at 7 PM we open the exhibition of the laboratory project «Դուռըդ Բաց» that we have been making at NPAK for a month and a half.

It is a research-based exploration of the multitude of Armenian languages and dialects, and the stories of people using them. Armenian language is so varied and diverse — from the Weastern Armenian spoken in diaspora to the dialects in the cities and villages of Armenia. The goal is to celebrate the ways that language connects people and explore how it challenges the identity and the relationships.

In this laboratory i got to know 11 wonderful artists and 4 driven curators with whom we worked together to create this cross-section of reality. In the limited time that we had together I think we managed to unearth a decent chunk of meaningful stories that show how the language affects us and shapes who we are. In this multicultural community we spoke, created and even cooked together which made this even more personally valuable to me.

Forever grateful for this opportunity to NPAK who started and hosted this project with me and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation that funded its creation.
