The F-15EX Eagle II's first exercise debut was Northern Edge 21. The exercise tested the aircraft's expanded capabilities. The F-15EX has a series of upgrades compared to the older F-15C Eagle and F-15E Strike Eagle models, including a digital cockpit, a more advanced ADCP-II mission computer and fly-by-wire flight controls.

Hot pitting is when an aircraft pilot flies a sortie, returns, refuels with engines running, then takes off again for another mission. The KC-135 provides the core aerial refueling capability for the #airforce and has excelled in this role for more than 60 years.

This iteration of the exercise expects approximately 1,500 service members to fly, maintain and support more than 100 aircraft from more than 20 units.

This aircraft delivers critical imagery and signals intelligence to decision makers throughout all phases of conflict, and due to its ability to gather ISR information, the aircraft is routinely flown at altitudes over 70,000 feet. This requires the U-2 pilot to wear a full pressure suit similar to those worn by astronauts.
