Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) is one of the six geographic combatant commands of the United States Armed Forces. It is responsible for the Indo-Pacific region, which includes the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and the Asia-Pacific region. USINDOPACOM is the largest and oldest of the six geographic combatant commands.
USINDOPACOM's mission is to "deter aggression, protect interests, and advance prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region." The command has a wide range of responsibilities, including:
* Conducting military operations to defend the United States and its allies and partners in the region. * Providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. * Promoting security cooperation and building partnerships with other countries in the region.
USINDOPACOM is headquartered in Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii, and has over 375,000 personnel. The command is led by a four-star admiral or general, who is appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate.
USINDOPACOM is an important part of the United States' national security strategy. The region is home to some of the world's most populous countries, as well as some of its fastest-growing economies. USINDOPACOM also has to contend with a number of challenges, including the rise of China, the threat of terrorism, and the growing importance of cybersecurity.
USINDOPACOM works closely with other U.S. government agencies, as well as with allies and partners in the region, to promote peace, security, and prosperity. The command is also committed to building relationships with the people of the Indo-Pacific region, and to supporting their development and aspirations.
