On this day in 1920, IRA volunteer Kevin Barry was hanged in Mountjoy Prison at just 18 years of age. The only crime Barry was guilty of was fighting to free his land from the shackles of a foreign and oppressive regime.

Today Clann Éireann remembers and commemorates Kevin Barry, and all the young men who fought and died in the struggle to make Ireland a nation Gaelic and Free.

Internationalist Leftists, especially of the Shinner mould, sometimes loftily proclaim that anyone who is not fluent in the Irish language cannot be a true Irish Nationalist, even as they betray the core of the Nation “as Gaeilge”, or praise some here yesterday foreigner on the basis of their having learned to splutter a few words, or performed a mimicry of Irish culture in music, dancing, sport or otherwise.

Again they show only their ignorance and stupidity.

Erskine Childers, Sinn Féin’s Director of Publicity in the first Dáil Éireann, claimed that Whiteness was essential for self-determination and admired the Boers because they were “White men accustomed to free institutions” and not “coloured barbarians.”

Today, Clann Éireann remembers and commemorates the gallant efforts of Cathal Brugha for the cause of Irish Nationalism. Brugha was shot by Free-State forces on the 5th of July, 1922, and later succumbed to his injuries on the 7th.
