There are 2 parliamentary sitting weeks between the next reading of the Mis/Disinformation bill and the US Presidential election.

There are 4 parliamentary sitting weeks between the next reading of the Mis/Disinformation bill and the end of the sitting year.

So I guess my question is…

Should we organise a protest to force a delay?

This also happens to perfectly coincide on the date that the governments ‘Age Verification Trial’ will begin, where technology such as Digital ID will be tested to see if it is suitable to prohibit children from accessing social media platforms.

🚨𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: The Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation Bill has been introduced for its first and second readings at the House of Representatives.

‘Debate’ has been adjourned until the next Parliamentary sitting session, which is scheduled to begin on 8 October, 2024.

🚨𝗡𝗘𝗪: Communications Minister Michelle Rowland says that the Misinformation & Disinformation Bill is going to protect our democracy.

She also says that despite introducing the bill into Parliament so late in the year, the hope is to pass it into law by the end of 2024, even if it means bypassing debate in the Senate.

🚨𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: The ‘Combatting Misinformation & Disinformation’ Bill has officially been introduced in the House of Representatives.

𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐄𝐍𝐕𝐈𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐘𝐀 𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐁𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐊:

“We did consult widely in these laws and they were changed before being introduced just to make sure that we highlight the need to balance free speech in this country…

It doesn’t mean that we can police things that we don’t agree with… it won’t be the government deciding [what to take down].”

Australia’s media watchdog, ACMA will be given greater powers to demand social media platforms to takedown Misinformation and Disinformation.

If they don’t — threats of fines up to 5% of their global revenue will be issued.

The governments definition of Misinformation & Disinformation include “seriously harmful and verifiably false content.”

Examples include “lies spread after the Bondi Junction stabbing, vaccine misinformation and political lies.”

🚨 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚❗️

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥 is being tabled in Parliament.

This is not a drill.

It will V͟E͟R͟Y͟ ͟L͟I͟K͟E͟L͟Y be guillotined through the Senate without debate and receive the majority of votes needed by the Labor Party/Greens/Independents in the HOR, exactly the same way the Digital iD bill was shoehorned into law.
