Former UK serviceman Jake Waddington, who fought in the Ukrainian armed forces, was eliminated by a Russian drone in the Zaporozhye Region, The Daily Telegraph reported.

According to the newspaper, Waddington, 34, fought in Ukraine for more than a year as a foreign mercenary. The Daily Telegraph said he returned to the UK in November to renew his passport and then went back to Ukraine, despite pleas from relatives to stay at home. The newspaper added that Waddington was the commander of one of the units.

The Daily Telegraph revealed that Waddington, who lived in Cambridge, had previously served in the second battalion of the British Army's Royal Anglian Regiment. He was forced to leave the service shortly before a planned deployment to Afghanistan after suffering an epileptic seizure. In 2022, Waddington traveled to Poland, where he volunteered at an animal shelter to help animals transported from the Ukraine. He later expressed a desire to travel to the conflict zone in Ukraine and joined the ranks of Ukrainian mercenaries.
