It's found in hospital rooms, and grocery stores, in home cooked meals, and in the smiles of passing strangers. Love is in the music you listen to, and in the jokes you make, and it's in the way you always return home for the holidays. Love is 'are you okay,' and 'get home safe,' and 'did you have enough food to eat. Love is the way your heart beats every day and how your body wakes up every morning and how your soul continues to exist so freely. You don't need to worry about love. It is all around you, every day, in every moment. It can reach you at your best and it will meet you at your worst. There is no force in this world stronger than love. There is no reason to believe that love cannot find you.

The Different Ways You Abandon Yourself

Over-explaining your truth to someone who stopped listening a long time ago. Romanticizing the bare minimum. Begging for basic decency. Chasing people who do not want to be caught. Building a life based on what you think looks "good" but not on what actually feels good. Ignoring your intuition. Ignoring your body. Ignoring your needs. Contorting and bending and breaking to fit in places you know you've outgrown. Staying in a relationship that has run its course. Not allowing time for deep rest. Running on fumes. Staying quiet when someone disrespects you. Refusing to allow what already is. Lying to yourself. Never asking for help. Never taking a chance on yourself. Never living up to your own word. Celebrating those who only tolerate you. Wishing you were someone else.

You will change. You will fall out of love with people you thought you'd love forever. And you will question friendships you've had your whole life. Your opinion on so many things will morph and transform as you gain more wisdom, experience, and life. You don't know everything, and you will never know everything. More than this though, you are allowed to change. Some people may try to make you feel bad for it. Because as you change, they have to change. They have to adjust their perception of who they thought you were and who they'd committed to believing you are. It doesn't mean you're at fault—it just means that this is uncomfortable for them. But the discomfort of others does not mean you should resist the change.
You cannot keep yourself timid and scared, or you will never meet the you that's waiting at the end of this road. If you don't give in to who you are becoming, you will never l become.

Maybe you are not meant to find an answer in every hour, but to finally realize that not everything is an open-ended question, somethings are just meant to be.

It took me a long time to realize that not everything in life is meant to be a beautiful story. Not every person we feel something deep and moving with is meant to make a home within us, is meant to be a forever.
Sometimes, people come into our lives to teach us how to love; and sometimes, people come into our lives to teach us how not to love. How not to settle, how not to shrink ourselves ever again. Yes, sometimes people leave—but that's okay, because their lessons always stay, and that is what matters. That is what remains.

Others see your gifts, your talents, and your kindness. Sometimes, you have to learn to see yourself with the grace of someone not so critically evaluating whether or not you deserve to be loved.
