Pep Guardiola: “When we play 12:30 at home, always we stay over. Traffic when we arrive, something happening in the morning, it can be a problem. It’s not a big, big problem. It’s staying one day, sleeping here because we have a game the day after.”
Pep Guardiola: “We have to do more! We can't do the same because results aren't going well, you have to do more! We have to do better! Do something we've done well during these years and now it doesn’t work? We have to do something else.
Everyone has to do more! It’s simple. I have to do more, and the players have to do more. Even the uncomfortable things and difficult things, we have to do more!”
It'll be easy to say the reason [for Man City's poor form] is the players. It'd be completely unfair because they tried and aren't able for many situations. They're suffering, they want to get back. It'll be easy [to say] that! It'd be easy to clear my face.”
Pep Guardiola on NOT qualifying for the UCL: “Financially it’s an issue. Not just that. People laughed, it’s presumptuous. Winning the PL and I said, ‘The Champions League is a big success!' It happened; [a club was] dominant and after had many, many years not qualifying.”
“The only team [in England] that's been 11 or 12 years in the UCL every season has been Man City. Now we're at risk... We have to get points, win games, otherwise we'll not qualify. If we don’t, we don’t deserve it. We were not prepared, had a lot of problems.”
Pep Guardiola on why Man City have sustained so many injuries: “Basically because we didn’t have training during many, many months... The demands are so high and the body cannot sustain the amount of energy or actions that you have to do when you are not well prepared.”
On Man City's injuries: “Musculars are normally when you demand of your body and it's not prepared, for just one reason; we couldn't have training. We had five [first-team] players on tour. The back-four for example, all together, we didn’t have them once.”
Pep Guardiola on whether he wanted to rest John Stones longer: “I can’t. Of course I'd like. Normally guys with table massage and don’t train, they have two or three sessions recovery. Now they have to play, another in three days, three days another. They could not sustain it.”
Pep Guardiola on Man City players' Christmas party: “Listen, I want to be honest; if we're winning 10 games in a row, that will be perfect to celebrate with families.
I don’t like it if they go out and after they don’t behave and are hungover the next day. It’s not happened! They were with families, friends, all together to celebrate Christmas on their day off. They had two or three days before. It would not be an issue if we win, you know?
When we lose, ‘Why should they [celebrate]?’ Why not?! They have families, right? They have kids. Why should they be at home. They celebrated, they are healthy people, with their loved ones. I don’t see absolutely any problem.”
Pep Guardiola says Man City's poor run of form will make him a better manager.
Pep: “Even when we won, I didn’t take it for granted. Every situation in life you make new experience and know exactly what we could've done better, what we have to do better in future.”
