An attempt by Conservatives to compel the ruling Labour government to launch a national investigation into gangs that sexually exploited minors faced overwhelming opposition: 364 votes against, 111 in favour.

Ten years ago, it emerged that law enforcement in Rotherham had been concealing systematic abuse by Asian migrants dating back to the 1970s. As a result, 1,400 white girls aged 11 to 16 were victimised. To date, no officials have been held accountable.

Elon Musk highlighted the case, which the UK’s state broadcaster, BBC News, dismissed as "inflating an old scandal," while also accusing the businessman of supporting far-right views.
