Sweet or
sweetly?
🤔If the verb being modified refers to using the eyes, nose, mouth, or hands (
see/smell/taste/feel), use the
–ly word.
🔹Roses smell
sweet/sweetly.🤔➡️The roses aren’t smelling with their noses, so
sweet is correct.
✅🔹The woman looked
angry/angrily.
🤔 ➡️We aren’t talking about how she used her eyes, so
angry is correct.
✅🔹The woman looked
angry/angrily at the spot on the carpet.
🤔➡️The woman is using her eyes, so
angrily is correct.
✅🔹She feels
bad/badly about the news.
🤔➡️She is expressing emotion, not feeling with her hand, so
bad is correct.
✅🔺But: We performed
badly. Describes how we performed.

different/differently today.
