🔺Along or alongside?🔻

Along and alongside are #prepositions or #adverbs.

⚪️Along "على طول"
#يعني 'في خط بجوار شيء طويل ورفيع' ، على سبيل المثال طريق ، مسار:

🔆There were lots of shops along the main street.
👈كان هناك الكثير من المحلات التجارية على طول الشارع الرئيسي.

🔆I saw three different boats along the bank of the river.

💠We use along as an adverb with verbs of motion meaning ‘together with’:

🔆Why don’t you come along with us to the party?
🔆They said they’d bring the bikes along and we can ride to the swimming pool.

⚫️Alongside "إلى جانب"

🔆The trees alongside the fence have all been damaged by the wind. (near)
وقد تضررت جميع الأشجار القريبة من السياج بسبب الرياح.

🔆Put your bike alongside mine. (next to)

🔆I find it difficult to cope with this illness alongside all my other problems. (together with)

💠We also use alongside as an adverb, meaning ‘along the side of’ or ‘next to’ something:

🔆I parked my car in the drive and William parked his alongside.

✨Tricky adverbs✨"الظروف المخادعة"

💡Bad or badly? Sweet or sweetly?🤔

If the verb being modified refers to using the eyes, nose, mouth, or hands (see/smell/taste/feel), use the –ly word.

🔹Roses smell sweet/sweetly.🤔

➡️The roses aren’t smelling with their noses, so sweet is correct.✅

🔹The woman looked angry/angrily.🤔

➡️We aren’t talking about how she used her eyes, so angry is correct.✅

🔹The woman looked angry/angrily at the spot on the carpet.🤔

➡️The woman is using her eyes, so angrily is correct.✅

🔹She feels bad/badly about the news.🤔

➡️She is expressing emotion, not feeling with her hand, so bad is correct.✅

🔺But: We performed badly. Describes how we performed.

🔹The fish tastes different/differently today.🤔

➡️Different because the fish is not tasting anything.✅

🔹Don’t take it personal/personally.🤔

➡️Personally because we are modifying take, not it!✅
