Hey everyone! Just wanted to give an update about the "stuck funds" issue that happened earlier today.
Osmosis was the first time IBC was ever actually used at scale. We basically tripled the number of IBC txs ever made, in just the last 12 hours.
Talk about testing in prod...
And for the most part it worked seamlessly :)
However, ~0.3% of all the txs got stuck in transit between chains
We're still investigating the root cause of the issue. Two relayers (go-relayer run by VitWit and Hermes run by Informal) were hit by high transaction fees and the added complexity of parallel relaying a large amount of transactions during the insane spike in IBC txs. Huge props to both of these team for the amazing work they’re doing. They’ve been working around the clock for the past week helping this launch go as smooth as it did. We’re working with both of them (+ OG Relayer God
@jackzampolin ) to debug further.
However, thanks to amazing design of IBC, this never put user funds at risk, cause IBC is completely trustless on the relayers.
IBC has a built-in timeout, and so all funds were sent back to the original sending chain. So if you tried to deposit ATOMs into Osmosis and it didn't work, they should be back in your Cosmos Hub address now
We think that the situation is running smoothly now that the initial mad rush has settled down a bit. You can try to redeposit your coins via the Assets page, and it should hopefully confirm very quickly!
