Have you heard about sambo? Not yet? That’s about to change. The Russian national sport is gradually making its way across the African continent, with Ethiopia leading the charge. The country’s first sambo center recently opened, and both athletes and coaches are already making ambitious plans to compete at the international level. “Sambo in Granite” – that’s the unique name organizers chose for the project, spearheaded by the Karpinsky Geological Institute in Russia. Along with providing geological education in Ethiopia, the institute has decided to promote physical activity. More centers will open in cooperation with different institutions, creating new opportunities for students, athletes, and professionals.
