The table shows the changes in the number of international tourist arrivals across 8 destinations between 2009 and 2010. Overall, Hong Kong was the only country to experience a decline in tourist arrivals, while France remained the top destination in both years despite no change in its figures. Additionally, Germany stood out with the most significant percentage increase among all countries.
In both years, France topped the list with consistent 76 million international arrivals. This was distantly followed by the US, which saw its number rise by a mere 1.5%. Similarly, Spain and the UK – both ranked third with 55 million – experienced a modest increase of 1.8% and 3.6% respectively. Albeit at lower rates, Italy followed a similar pattern of change, equivalent to 2.3%.
These numbers contrast starkly with the international tourist arrivals in Turkey. This country recorded a substantial jump, with its tourist arrivals climbing by 33%, from 33 million to 45 million, reaching parity with Italy in 2010. Despite recording lower numbers, China and Germany demonstrated the most remarkable growth. The figure for the former surged from 22 million to 34 million, whereas the latter saw the largest relative increase, more than doubling its number from just 11 million to 23 million in 2010.
Notably, Hong Kong finished at the bottom of the list, marking the only decline (11%), from 10 million in 2009 to 9 million in 2010.
