Ooh, according to a new report from Kamila Wojchiechowska for Android Authority, the Tensor G3 will apparently support AV1 encoding, but not only that, it'll expose Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) to the bootloader. I discovered a hidden "advanced memory protection…
Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) is a mandatory hardware feature of Arm v9 CPUs that protects against memory safety bugs (with a slight runtime performance cost overhead) by providing detailed information about memory violations. The Pixel 8 will feature Arm’s Memory Tagging Extensions (MTE), which can prevent some memory-based attacks. Other phones already support MTE in hardware but haven’t enabled it in Android. The Pixel 8 bootloader looks to be the first to implement this interface. https://www.androidauthority.com/pixel-8-tensor-g3-specs-3331398/
