In mere hours, he and the rest of the 347th would be thrust into the Battle of the Bulge, the largest and bloodiest battle fought by the US in WWII. The 347th endured 137 days of desperate combat as they pushed into Germany. PFC Baca did not live to see V-E Day. He fell on March 2nd, 1945. He was 21. My grandpa remembers the day they got the telegram. Cousins were stacking hay when they heard "¡Mataron a Mone!" The capitalists pushing H1B visas speak of money, jobs, and opportunity.
