The Space Weather Prediction Center (@NWSSWPC) has issued the first G4 (Severe) geomagnetic watch since 2005. The aurora tonight/tomorrow morning may become visible over much of the northern half of the country, and maybe as far south as Alabama to northern California.

On Jan. 20, the Solar Ultraviolet Imager (#SUVI) instrument onboard the #GOESEast 🛰️ observed a #CoronalMassEjection near the center-left of the sun.

The #CME was expected to cause a moderate geomagnetic storm here on Earth yesterday and today. Let us know if you saw the #Aurora! 💫

A CME was observed lifting off the Sun on 20 Jan and is expected to cause up to G2 (Moderate) geomagnetic storming on 22-23 Jan (UTC days). A watch has been issued. - NOAA Space Weather
