Inland Visions is back! This season's premiere sees the team journey to the Republic of Bashkortostan, discovering one of the oldest ethnicities in Russia - the people of Bashkiria.
Their culture, language and traditions create a unique mix of northern resilience and southern hospitality. Host Peter Scott saddles up on a Bashkir horse, samples local cuisine, tries his hand at archery, and tunes in for an ethnic music ensemble that's bringing back ancient hits.
This music group called ethno-project Hazina is reviving Bashkir folk songs along with traditional instruments. Listen to the enchanting sound of the kyl kobyz. The strings of this ancient instrument are made of horsehair and it was once played by shamans in healing rituals. ๐ Inland Visions
The amazing Burzyan bee of Bashkiria. These bees live in the wild and build their homes in tree hollows. They are resistant to disease, severe cold and long winters. Wild Bashkir honey is only collected once a year and is a true delicacy known for its health benefits.
Chatkhan, a Khakass folk stringed plucked musical instrument, is often accompanied by throat singing - one of the most unusual and beautiful sound combinations there is to hear.
