An interesting study from 2010 shedding potential light about the origins of Ancestral North African. The results show that the most archaic African mtDNA Berbers have is L3*. It can be traced back to 20.000+ years ago. So it’s likely a surviving mtDNA of Iberomaurusian. Which assumes that ANA is likely closer to Ancestral East African/proto nilotic which DNA makes up around half maternally among cushitic speakers or who descend from them like for example Amhara or Sudanese Arabs/Nubians. Instead of West Africans being closer to ANA.
