The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the conclusion of a major operation at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, which resulted in the detention of 240 alleged terror operatives. The IDF claims 19 operatives were killed during the raid, with no civilian casualties, despite earlier Hamas-run reports claiming 50 deaths.
The IDF described the hospital as a Hamas stronghold, where operatives allegedly posed as medical staff or patients to evade capture. The operation saw the evacuation of over 600 civilians and 95 medical personnel and patients to the nearby Indonesian Hospital, which the IDF supplied with medical equipment and generators.
During the raid, IDF forces uncovered weapons and explosive devices in and around the hospital and eliminated several Hamas cells attempting to escape. The military insists that no direct fire targeted the hospital itself.
Kamal Adwan Hospital is now non-operational, with its functions transferred to the Indonesian Hospital. The IDF has stated it will closely monitor the site to prevent its future use by Hamas.
This operation is part of Israel's broader campaign against Hamas in Gaza, intensified after the October 7, 2023, attacks that killed 1,200 Israelis and saw 251 hostages taken. Israel maintains its goal is to dismantle Hamas's operational capabilities in the region.
