The Ministry of Agriculture of Uruguay confirmed the first case of avian flu in the country. Contamination was found in a black swan near Lagoa Garzón. The city is 180 kilometers from the border with Rio Grande do Sul — in Brazil, the State is among the largest producers of chicken meat.
There are also rumors of the detection of at least one case of avian flu in the Argentine province of Jujuy, close to the border with Chile. The local government, however, did not confirm the information.
