Application of AI in the diagnosis of head and neck cancer

What are neck and head cancer?
Head and neck cancers are a group of cancers that usually originate from the squamous cells that line the mouth, nose, and throat.

Signs:
Constant sore throat, difficulty in swallowing, hoarseness, and continuous neck inflammation are caused by enlarged lymph nodes.

How common are head and neck cancers?
Researchers found that about 20 million people worldwide are suffering from head and neck cancer, and the possibility of a 35% increase in this number by 2026.

These cancers are more than twice as common in men as in women.

Application of AI in the diagnosis of head and neck cancer:
Today, artificial intelligence can distinguish the difference between cancer and non-cancer patients' images with 99% accuracy.

It works very well in detecting metastases and tiny tumors that humans usually do not recognize.

Using artificial intelligence to diagnose and predict breast cancer recurrence

Using artificial intelligence, researchers have identified biomarkers in breast tissue samples.

Biomarkers can predict breast cancer recurrence after the completion of treatment.

Also, these markers diagnose the disease in the early stages of cancer.

One of the essential biomarkers is a type of protein called collagen.

Collagen is present in all organs of the body, including breast tissue.

Using machine learning, a set of information related to breast tissue samples of breast cancer patients was analyzed.

In this investigation, a pattern of structures consisting of collagen was identified.

For example, broken collagen structures indicate an excellent course of treatment for this type of cancer.

In addition, the disordered collagen structures prevent the formation of malignant tumors and cancer return after treatment using ordinary methods, including chemotherapy.

Feature selection and machine learning methods for optimal identification and prediction of subtypes in Parkinson’s disease

Objectives: The present work focuses on the assessment of Parkinson’s disease (PD), including both PD subtype identification (unsupervised task) and prediction (supervised task). We specifically investigate optimal feature selection and machine learning algorithms for these tasks.

Conclusion: Combining non-imaging information with SPECT-based radiomics features and optimal utilization of HMLSs, can enable robust identification of subtypes and appropriate prediction of these subtypes in PD patients. Moreover, using timeless datasets beyond cross-sectional datasets enabled predictive accuracies of over 90%. Overall, we showed that radiomics features extracted from SPECT images are important in clustering and predicting PD subtypes.

Do DTI features add value to clinical and SPECT imaging features for outcome prediction in Parkinson’s disease?

Purpose: In previous studies, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) features have shown a correlation with the motor outcome of Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients. Our study sets to investigate the effect of DTI features on outcome prediction by employing hybrid machine learning (ML) systems (HMLSs). HMLSs are useful since dimensionality reduction algorithms (DRAs) linked with predictor algorithms can improve the assessment of PD (including prediction of disease outcomes that can significantly enhance powering of clinical trials for novel disease-modifying therapies).
