@SpencerGuard: What would the U.S. have done after October 7th if it had happened to the U.S.?
General Mark Milley was the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff for 2 Presidents (Trump/Biden) & would have served as the principal military advisor to the president, the secretary of defense, & National Security Council during such an event. He said - "can you imagine what we would do, I mean seriously...you need to get into, achieve your political objectives, get it done, get it done fast, and get it over with..." The United States would have responded with overwhelming military force to return the hostages, stop the rockets emanating out of enemy territory, and defeat the enemy quickly. The U.S. would use overwhelming force (more combat power than was available to Israel IMO) doing everything feasible and reasonable to limit collateral damage (like Israel has).
Israel has gone to great lengths to protect civilians while pursuing their legal right to defend themselves. To say otherwise, to use ay numbers (especially Hamas casualty numbers) to argue otherwise is devoid of the military context, the military history of contested urban warfare that has come before Gaza, or what the laws of armed conflict actually say.
