Ironically, the movement of high-end tourism into Key West probably resulted in the lowest level of Spanish-speaking residents in its history, but now the working class here must migrate from other keys or from the mainland.
Key West reminds me of Oahu, but without mountains. Wild chickens roam the city streets for lack of predators. Urbanization is complete and parking non-existent for lack of land. Exotic plants grow easily and everywhere.
It's nice, if you like that sort of thing. From appearances, many very well-heeled Americans do like it. There is something glorious and inevitable about the hotshot in the red convertible with a babe in the passenger seat, speeding down a sunny, beachfront boulevard. I expect to see that guy at every traffic light, here. The geography demands this specimen of American masculinity.
