This day in 1914 became famous for the Christmas truce of WW1 when a series of unofficial ceasefires came into being famously with the singing of a song sang by the Germans from their trenches and joined by the British from theirs. Eventually both sides met in "No mans land" shaking hands and exchanging gifts of cigarettes and liquor eventually leading to raucous impromptu games of football. This truce lasted the entirety of the day and long into the night despite the best efforts of commanders on both sides of the conflict.
The next day the fighting continued but only after the execution of many soldiers on both sides by their own commanders.
There are lessons to be learned here. The reality is we are in control of our own destiny and no power can change that unless we allow it.
