🚨 ICELAND: A powerful earthquake swarm began early this morning in the north-western Bárðarbunga caldera, recording about 130 quakes, the largest at M5.1. Seismic activity has surged in recent months, with 17 quakes above M3 recorded today. This is the most intense swarm since the Holuhraun eruption of 2014-2015, linked to ongoing magma accumulation and expansion since then.
Activity was intense until around 9 a.m. but has since subsided. The aviation colour code for Bárðarbunga has been raised to yellow, indicating heightened activity, with various scenarios possible, including potential eruptions both within and outside the caldera.
